Week of September 8-11

Here are some early reminders for the first week of school:

1) Each student will need to bring in $5.00 for their agenda.

2) You will need a math kit and a calculator ASAP.

3) Each student will need to supply his/her own three-ringed/lined paper. Please ensure that you have an ample amount in class at all times.

4) You will need to purchase or create a book cover for your history textbook.

5) Each student will need to have a pencil case with appropriate supplies (e.g., pens, pencils, pencil crayons, etc.). A case that will fit inside a standard desk is required.

6) Please do not bring white out to school. It is not necessary!

7) Please review the St. Francis of Assisi Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct is printed inside of each student agenda. It can also be accessed on this site via the "Link's Links" section.

8) Each student will need to create a google docs account if they do not have one.  Please ensure that your username is strictly anonymous (aside from the teacher) and that your password is only known by you.

9) Please bring an appropriate change of clothing to school for days when we have physical education class.  You must have running shoes at school on these days.

A Letter to Parents

Dear Parents,

Welcome to a new school year! I am Mr. S. Linklater, and I will be your child’s teacher this school year at St. Francis of Assisi. We will be using the standards-based report card to inform you of your child’s progress and achievement.

Although the report card is an important part of home and school communication, it is not the only way to know how your child is doing. Throughout the year, your child will be working on many activities that will help him or her learn new concepts and skills. Please take the time to review some of these activities and assignments with your child. They will give you various sources of information about what your child is learning. Also, please review your child’s planner daily. It will contain homework assignments and notes from me when needed. Please write any comments or questions you have for me in the planner as well.

At the end of each term, the report card will contain grades based on your child’s achievement. These grades will be based on a variety of evidence such as projects, presentations, tests, observations, and conversations.

Lastly, the report card also has a section on the General Learner Skills for all students in all grade levels. These are the positive behaviors and skills that lead to success in work, home and school. I will let you know how often your child demonstrates these behaviors. Please support your child by checking if your child completes homework daily, asking your child what he or she is learning, and helping your child work and play well with others.

I will be posting updates on this site with regards to upcoming events and major assignments. I will not be able to post information on a daily basis, so continue to review and sign your child's agenda each day.

If you ever have any questions or concerns please contact me at 705-431-5711.

Sincerely,

Mr. S. Linklater
